General Information

The Aptos Academy is a private, non-denominational community school located near San Andreas and Highway 1 in Aptos, California. Its purpose is to provide an educational environment where students are excited about learning and can discover and meet their full potential, while studying at their own rate on an enriched curriculum. Developing good study skills, fully understanding earlier materials before moving on, and good citizenship are all emphasized.

The curriculum includes all the basics: literature, verbal and written expression, math, science, research skills, and social studies. Students also participate in a daily physical education program along with substantial programs in art, drama, music, band, foreign language, and computer literacy. Community service projects are part of each grade and include beach cleanups, litter removal, tutoring, toy and food drives, and recycling.

Once students are in the 6th grade, they may choose from a wider selection of enrichment classes such as archery, ceramics, cooking and woodworking.

All students are invited to take part in the school newspaper and student council. The atmosphere is one of teamwork, mutual respect and friendliness, as the small school environment prompts friendships to develop through the entire student body rather than within a clique.

The school is designed for up to 130 children, grades preK – 8. Facilities, other than classrooms, include an art room, science room, library and a multi-purpose theater used for assemblies, special programs, gymnastics, and dramatic productions. A central courtyard is used for lunches and breaks. Play areas including a large soccer field, hardtop area for basketball, exercise area, as well as a separate playground for younger students are provided on the four-acre campus.
