CASA of Santa Cruz County

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Santa Cruz County works with children who have become dependents of the Court for a variety of reasons. Quite often the effects of their unstable home life shows up as difficulties in school. Tragically, more than half of the 90+ school children CASA serves annually perform below grade level. While the CASA program provides trained advocate/mentors for each child, some of the children are unable to meet their potential in their current school environment.

Seeing this need to support the education of these disadvantaged children, The Aptos Academy is stepping up to provide several full scholarships at the Academy for motivated CASA children who can benefit from learning in a ideal educational environment.

Each CASA student is matched with a buddy to help with the big transition to a new school. The CASA children benefit from small classes, individual attention, and friendly classmates as well as art, music and other enrichment classes. Special attention is provided to address any social or learning issues. The Academy's suitability for a partnership of this sort is visible in the polite and productive school environment.

The Aptos Academy, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit community school, is committed to raising the funds needed to support these scholarships. Our goal is to raise $30,000 from this campaign, enough to cover the tuition and related expensed for a full year for three children in foster care.
