At The Aptos Academy, we believe:
That every child
has a strong natural desire to learn, and the right to exercise
that desire.
That this desire must
be supported by introducing the child to a proper study technology
and encouragement of good study habits.
That each student should build a solid foundation of knowledge
and understanding of his current studies before proceeding to the
next level.
That the child's desire to learn must not be suppressed or smothered
by incompetent teaching, a distractive study atmosphere, or duress.
That each child is a unique individual and should be able to proceed
at a pace suited to his or her own abilities, talents, and interests.
That each child needs to develop the ability to observe, think,
and express his or her thoughts clearly.
That it is the school's responsibility to observe, measure, and
recognize students' achievements, and maintain a positive environment
for learning.
That proper education includes learning and practicing respect
and responsibility for the rights and needs of others.
That the school should be a contributing member of the community,
and that students and teachers should undertake projects that are
of service to the community.
That the school should support a diversity of backgrounds, beliefs,
personalities, and ideas, while maintaining the rules and requirements
appropriate to achieving the objectives outlined above.
